Piękna Studnia – A Masterpiece of Baroque Blacksmithing

One of the most iconic landmarks in Nysa is Piękna Studnia (Beautiful Well) – a unique late 17th-century structure, considered a true masterpiece of Baroque blacksmithing. Commissioned by Mayor Caspar Naas, the well impresses with its intricate design and rich decorations. The iron casing, weighing a remarkable 1,600 kg, is adorned with floral motifs, animals, and mythical creatures, all crowned by a double-headed Habsburg eagle.

Legend has it that tossing a symbolic coin into the well guarantees a return to Nysa – so why not give it a try?

The Bell Tower of St. James Basilica – A Unique Observation Tower

Near Piękna Studnia stands the Bell Tower of St. James Basilica, one of the few freestanding bell towers in Poland, reaching an impressive height of 43 meters. Built in the 16th century, it still captivates visitors with its rich sculptural decorations.

Inside, you can admire the unique exhibition “The Treasure of St. James”, which showcases valuable goldsmithing artifacts. The tower’s top level houses nine bells and a chiming clock.

Castle Gate in Biała Nyska – The Last Remnant of a Former Residence

A few kilometers from Nysa, in the village of Biała Nyska, stands the Castle Gate, the only surviving part of a 16th-century residence.

The castle was originally built on the site of a fortress once owned by Duke Bolko the Strict of Jawor. Inspired by the famous Moszna Palace, the residence was tragically burned down by the Red Army in 1945, and its remaining walls were dismantled in the 1970s.

Today, the site attracts history enthusiasts and photographers – a great stop for anyone exploring the surrounding area.
